Why We Built The Groundwork Sleeping Pad
We made the Groundwork Sleeping Pad in three different thicknesses because if there's one thing we refuse to compromise, it's comfort. Once we've picked the best option for our next trip—the thicker the pad, the better insulated we are against the cold ground—we can rest easy. Padded with a cushy layer of foam, the Groundwork makes a great option for getting away from the world for the weekend, where we can sleep under the stars in comfort.

- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
These are super comfy and for the price you cant go wrong! They are not compact but perfect for car camping.

Won’t stay deflated
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This pad was was to sleep on (at 3.5 inches, it should be!) but now it won’t stay deflated, so it takes up a lot of storage space and you can only transport it if you have a lot of space for gear. Usable, but disappointing given that it was priced at the time like high-quality gear.

Gigantic bag
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought the 3.5 version hoping it would help with back pain while sleeping on the ground. First thing you will notice is the size of the bag. It is the same size as a camping chair. Easily the biggest sleeping pad bag I have ever seen. So if space is a concern, which it is for me, this is a hard pass. The material feels very soft and the pad inflates easily. The valve is super easy to operate. The seams don't appear to be super heavy duty which is a concern. For something designed to spend its life literally on the ground it looks and feels poorly constructed. If given the choice, I would return this and buy something smaller and more comfortable.

Good bargain
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Bought these for my son for car camping so they haven't been used yet, but we inflated them and they seem comfortable and well-made with what appear to be rugged materials and strong seams. A very good price for sleeping pads!

It Blocks the Cold Buttt....
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
It blocks the cold but if you're looking for comfort this is not it. The first night we used it, the self inflate only inflated about 70% and you felt every part of the floor. We blew in air to fill it up some more and it was still uncomfortable to lay on. Did we feel the cold floor, no, did we sleep comfortably, no. If you want to be comfortable then maybe get padding on top of this one.

So Comfortable
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought this sleeping pad (2.5" version) for my wife to ensure that she was comfortable. It was so comfortable that I was a bit jealous. It also self-inflated quite quickly. I think I will buy another one for myself. A very reasonable price compared to many others I have seen.

Comfortable, Lightweight, WARM!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I?m a hammock camper, fits perfectly in big Agnes 15° bag sleeve, this pad has kept my back warm in frigid New England weather. Soft and squishy enough to form to my hammock. Makes me feel like I?m in a baby swaddle hahaha. Super light as well, barley notice it, fits perfectly in the tent compartment of my pack Highly recommend for backpack hammock camping. Hiked 50 miles of the AT with this pad, have gotten it dirty, wet, scraped it on rocks, poked with twigs, it has held up amazingly You do have to put a little effort into deflating and rolling it up but I?m a pretty small guy at 155lbs soaking wet and don?t have a terrible time with it

Difficult to deflate
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
This sleeping pad appears to be as comfy as advertised. However, we returned it because we found it unusually difficult to deflate and roll up. Struggled with it a long time after we unpacked to check it out. I'm guessing that is because of the foam which has to be compressed quite a bit to fit it back into the bag. I should add that we are in our late 70's so perhaps someone younger would not find this a problem.

Best Decision
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I love this sleeping pad! A complete upgrade from my therm-a-rest. Took it camping and even though it got down to 30 degrees at night sleeping on this on my Coleman cot was a dream! So comfortable and kept me warm! Only downside is that it takes a few tries to removes the air to roll it up and put it back in the bag.

Comfy & Affordable
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I got the 3.5 and this thing is so comfy and plush, especially for the price. It brings a whole new comfort level to car camping - oversized with plenty of room to stretch out and shift on through the night. I highly recommend!

Can I use it in hot weather too? Or will it cook me. Thanks!
