Why We Like The Hardwear AP Pant

The Mountain Hardwear Men's Hardwear AP Pant tackles our bike commutes through the city, afternoon bouldering sessions, impromptu post-work nachos with our coworkers, and everything in between. Reflective strips under the cuff increase visibility on twilight bike rides home from the brewery, crag, or office, and we love the roll-up snap closure on the hem that keeps our pants from getting caught in the crankset.

Customer Images

Here's what customers have to say

The product reviews are mixed. Some found the pants comfortable, durable, and versatile for various activities. However, others experienced fit issues, with the pants feeling too tight, especially in the thighs and crotch. Some also reported quality problems, such as the fabric thinning or ripping quickly. A few felt the pants lacked the necessary stretch and mobility for more active uses. The suitability of the pants seems to depend on the individual's body type and intended use.

You’ll get what you’re paying for

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Definitely run small & tight Awkward & annoying restrictiveness from above the knee to the middle hip. I’m wearing them with my LL bean boots and they look good. I can’t imagine them looking good with tennis shoes though.

Almost hits the mark

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Very comfortable for hiking, however materials and build quality are not great. Fabric is piling and threads are coming undone after only a short time of use.

Only suitable for slim people

If you squat and deadlift a lot, please don't buy these pants. No stretch, only suitable for office.

Rigid material and tight on the quads

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Ordered in the same size I normally do for semi-fitted pants and I can't bring my leg up to a 90 degree knee. If you have big quads definitely avoid.

weird cut, too tight

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I had high hopes because so many websites gave it good reviews for travel pants and I have had good luck with Mountain Hardwear in the past. I am 6' 160# into endurance sports. These pants are ridiculously tight around my thighs and crotch. They feel like compression tights but fit fine around the waist. I am not sure who the target audience for these pants are but it doesn't seem like a realistic choice unless one has very slim legs. :(

Great pants at regular price better now

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This pats an are great roomy and they don’t look crazy for use around the office. I’ve used this to take small hikes with the kids after work cookouts, weekend projects and warehouse work. The pockets are spacious and mesh so heat is able to escape. They are not as breathable as full synthetic but are great for all weather other than full summer. These made me stop using jeans.

Poor fit

Very tight through seat and thighs. Minimal stretch in fabric to compensate. Not suitable for active use IMO. Returned

Good pants but not for climbing

Not stretchy enough to climb. No high steps allowed. Good for hiking

Excellent material but....

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Really like these pants and will be able to use for all types of situations. They definitely run small in the waist and the length was longer (designed to roll up though). I suggest sizing up if you have a muscular build. I usually have some give in size 38. None with these though.
