Efficient rowing redefined by the SGG Oar Shaft
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"The four-pound counterweight makes such a difference on long days—less effort per stroke really adds up. This shaft flexes like wood but never needs maintenance or worries about dry rot."
Hundreds of oar strokes per day separate efficient equipment from arm-burning torture devices, so we trust the Cataract SGG Oar Shaft with Counterbalance and Rope Wrap to reduce effort while increasing power. Composite construction flexes and rebounds like traditional wood without the maintenance hassles, while the four-pound counterweight assists every stroke past the oarlock, proving that smart engineering beats brute force.

Nothing compares

Having upgraded to these from some entry level oars, I call this a gamechanger. These are ergonomic and so easy to manage. My 10yo was able to pilot our 14' AIRE last year thanks to these. The rope wrap is superb. The counterbalance makes navigation a breeze. And the thumb slot in the grips is amazingly comfortable.

Spendy, but you get what you pay for with Cataract oars. They’re muuuuch more supple than Carlisles, which means they don’t beat you up as much. That makes a big difference. Relatively light, and a lot less maintenance compared to wooden oars.
